Creative Biolabs is a global provider with the objective to develop new functional psychotropic drugs through our robust platform. We offer customers neurokinin (NK) receptor antagonist development services to promote the drug discovery of psychiatric disorders.
NK receptor is the main receptor for the tachykinin family of peptides. It belongs to the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) family. Substance P and NK receptors are expressed in brain regions involved in stress, fear, and affective response (e.g., amygdala, hippocampus, hypothalamus, and frontal cortex). In fact, some studies show that substance P/NK receptor interaction plays an important role in the modulation of stress-related, affective, and/or anxious behavior.
NK receptors are suggested to be novel targets for the treatment of psychoses or drug addiction. Specifically, the NK-1 receptors are involved in emotional responses to stress, suggesting that an alteration in the tachykinergic system may be the key to triggering pathogenesis such as depression. NK receptor antagonists may find utility in some psychiatric diseases, including schizophrenia, anxiety, and depressive disorders.

Besides, NK receptor antagonists have shown preclinical activity in several paradigms of anxiety and depression. NK receptor antagonist using aprepitant has been tested as a novel antidepressant mechanism with major depressive disorder. For example, L-759274, a highly selective nonpeptide NK receptor antagonist, is an efficacious and well-tolerated antidepressant. In addition, another drug GR205171 can be used for the treatment to alleviate clinical symptoms in patients with a social anxiety disorder (SAD). Interestingly, NK receptor antagonists have also shown potential for the treatment of alcohol- and drug-related disorders that are often comorbid with mood and anxiety disorders.
Many preclinical and clinical evidence indicates that NK receptor antagonists might represent a new approach to the treatment of schizophrenia and possibly other psychiatric disorders.
