Treatment

Anxiety disorders can be managed by some intervention strategies such as medications and psychotherapy.

  • Medications

The drugs used to treat anxiety disorders include antidepressants, Bupropion, Benzodiazepines, beta-blockers, anticonvulsants, antipsychotics, and Buspirone. Antidepressants relieve the symptoms of anxiety disorders by affecting neurotransmitters. For example, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) can inhibit the uptake of excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate and increase glutamate levels. The two drugs are typically the first drugs for the treatment of anxiety disorders.

  • Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy or "talk therapy" is a common strategy for the treatment of anxiety disorder. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), one of the common types of psychotherapy, helps a person learn a different way of thinking, reacting, and behaving, thereby relieving the feeling of anxiety.

Besides, a good living habit and attitude may help you reduce the symptoms of anxiety disorders, such as learning about your disorder, avoiding alcohol use, having a positive attitude, learning to relax, and moderate exercise.
